Find up-to-date details on the Facebook page!

We will be at Pavilion #8 at Sander Ferry Park in Hendersonville, TN which is one of the best viewing places in our area and we should see a complete blackout at this location and one of the longest durations. The eclipse is expected to pass through the Middle Tennessee are between 1:20 and 1:30 in the afternoon. The eclipse is expected to be a total eclipse for the area and have a duration between 2 minutes 13 seconds and 2 minutes 37 seconds. This is an opportunity you don’t want to miss. Per NASA: “The last total solar eclipse viewed from North America was on July 7, 1972 whose path went from Northern Alaska to Nova Scotia. A second, more recent, total solar eclipse was visible on July 11, 1991 from Southern Baja California to Panama.

Additional Information
  • The event is free and open to friends and family but we need you to register so that we can calculate items such as bottled water, viewing glasses, etc. as accurately as possible
  • There is a large parking area adjacent to the shelter
  • Children are welcome but need to be supervised at all times since we are on the shores of the lake and there is a boat launch at the end of the parking area and especially when viewing the eclipse.
  • We will have coolers with bottled water available
  • You are welcome to bring a cooler with your own beverages but please note that no alcoholic beverages are allowed in the park
  • There is limited seating so please bring your folding chairs and you are welcome to bring folding tables if you would like
  • We are trying to get a corn hole tournament going and have one OSU corn hole board. If you have one, feel free to bring it. If you want to help organize a tournament, please let us know
  • Any other picnic type games would be welcomed
  • Donations will be accepted to help reimburse Gerry Williger for the Shelter rental and you can also make donations to further the Physics and/or Astronomy programs at either university.
  • Viewing glasses will be for sale at the event. The Louisville chapter of the Society of Physics Students (SPS) will be selling t-shirts and eclipse glasses as a fund-raiser.  The cost is $15 for a t-shirt and $1 for eclipse glasses. You may contact Samir Kusmic (snkusm01@louisville.edu) for more information or to order.
  • IF you have access to or expertise with A/V, we could use your help. We need either a projector and screen or some tvs to hook up so we can follow the eclipse as it moves across the country. We have a hot spot but a backup for that would also be nice to have on hand.
